“They’re Waiting for you. ” Sonia responded, she was dressed in a red blouse and a black pencil skirt that bared her contours for all men to admire. Her boobs fought with her clothes they wanted to jump out.
Ada informed one of her junior colleague, that she was going up to join a meeting. She climbed the staircase leading to the conference hall. She saw the managing director of her branch and the regional manager with other people she didn’t not know.
“Mrs Ada Agada please have your seat.” The MD said pointing Ada to a chair facing the panel.
“I hope all is well? ” Ada asked tensed up and worried, looking from one face to another. The MD finally replied her.
“After the annual auditing, by the external auditors from the headquarters, it was found that fifty million naira is missing from the bank’s account. As the head of the cashier, we want to know how this could happen and go unnoticed by you?” she said. Ada’s skin immediately went white.

“Jesus Christ sir! what are you talking about? ” She said her arms are sweaty. The MD passed his tablet to see the financial statement for the year.
“Mrs Ada, you have to tell us what happened with the money. Or else you’ll be going to explain to EFCC.”the regional manager said.
“Jesus Christ EFCC? I have never one Kobo of the bank’s money. I don’t know what is happening.” Mrs Ada begged.

“This isn’t a question of begging Ada. If you know you’ve taken the companies money you should say it now. Agents from the EFCC are on their way from Makurdi to pick you. What happened to the money?” The regional Manager asked sternly.
“Sir I swear in the name of God I am not a thief . I’ve worked for this bank for the past fifteen years. I’ve never been accused of theft. Why would I start now? ” Ada asked, she was shaken. She buried her head in her arms and began to cry.
“Crying will not save you. it’s now too late, the EFCC agents just sent a message, they’re already in Gboko they have to go back with you to their state headquarters. ” The managers said.
The auditor showed her on his system, days the money was went missing. she was speechless, head bowed on the table she started crying unto God.
Thirty minutes later she was in handcuffs and was led away. They detained her at the EFCC Benue state headquarters.
She tried to reach Agada his number wasn’t reachable. she locked up in a bullet proof glass room, she couldn’t see anyone outside.

A tall man wearing a Navy blue suit, with a white shirt and red tie, a black sunshade covering his eyes stepped into the room .
“Good day Mrs Ada Agada, I’m Agent Rufus Ataba, you’re still under investigation. Under your watch fifty million naira disappeared from the coffers of the bank.
We’ve traced the money and it wasn’t through internet banking that we would have concluded it was Yahoo boys. Can you explain to me who approved the withdrawal of twenty million, ten million, fifteen million and five million naira?” He asked sitting on the desk before Ada, his leg hung in the air, while the other was on the ground to keep him steady.
“I tell you the truth, I don’t know what happened, you can check my account I don’t have that kind of money. I’ve never stolen from the bank.”
Ada said sobbing. “Why would I take the money when I know it would be traced back to me? ” Ada asked, she had suddenly develop a head throbbing headache.

Mr Agada had gotten the WhatsApp voice note from his wife, that she had been arrested. He cut short his journey in America and flew into Nigeria. He landed in Abuja , the case of Ada and her colleagues had been moved to EFCC headquarters in Jabi Abuja.
“God day Mr Agada I presume. ” An agent said while taking Agada into the building. “Your wife was arrested for a case of fraud, fifty million was missing after an annual audit in her bank. After further checks it was that the it went beyond this year.
For three years the sum of one hundred and eight million naira had disappeared from her branch. Her colleagues have also been arrested. We are going to be charging them to court by Monday if they all refuse to say a
how the money got missing.” The Agent said, his boss had sent him to pick Agada who was his friend.
“Mr Rufus my wife can be many things, but she’s no thief I can vouch for her. I don’t know how she got roped in this, but we’re going to get to the root of it.” Mr Agada said, he walked into the cell where his wife was kept.

She embraced him and cried a river on his shoulders. Her eyes were swollen like puff fuff, coal of fire red, the tear lines had made a permanent ridge on her face. She had lost half of her weight in just four days.
“What happened Ada? ” Mr Agada Agada asked his wife.
“I don’t know o.. I don’t know what do I want to steal that kind of money for? oh my God an in trouble. ” She continued to cry, her lips trembling, saliva dropping from her mouth, collided with mucus drooling from her nose.
Her head was burning hot like a charcoal pot. “They said they’ll take us to prison. Me Ada to prison for something I didn’t do? ” She asked crying.
“Honey don’t worry we’ll find out what really happened you won’t go to jail.” Agada promised his wife. “Have you had anything to eat today? ” He asked. She shook her head vehemently.
“No no I don’t want to eat oh, I don’t want to eat. why should I eat one hundred and eight million? what did I do with it I don’t have appetite to eat oh.” She wept her husband couldn’t even console her.
