CHAPTER 111.

“Comfort when are you going to go to the shrine , you don’t have money to buy the goat , I’ve given it to you , what’s still keeping you here ? go and buy the goat Na! you want to kill my son ?” Simon yelled at Onyabehi ,she sat quietly on a slab near the entrance to her house .
“You’re keeping quiet now , the time you were opening your legs way for all the men to sleep with you , you didn’t know , it has been three weeks, you refused to do anything, are you waiting till my son drops dead too ?” Simon added .
Ogwuche and his mother sat under the mango tree, Ogwuche was tired of the rambling , but didn’t want to confront his father .
“Chachacha! I regret ever giving a dime on your head , to think about the money I’ve been showering on your stupid father , with his stomach like clay pot , and you still have the mind to cheat on my son .
” The man jabbed Onyabehi in the stomach , she wanted to respond , but the words couldn’t form , Alice watch her mother’s face , with tears in her eyes as her grandfather poured ashes on her pride .

“Papa you have talk enough abeg , leave Onyabehi alone! If anyone is to blame it’s you , you are the genesis of this problem , when you decided to play God…”
“Ogwuche you cannot talk to your father like that!” Ene warned her son .
“Mama what else can happen to me ? let the gods come and kill me , I don’t care , what’s this useless life that am living ? I’ll be better off resting in the grave , of what use am I alive?” He barked .
“I don’t want anybody to make noise to my ears! I just want to enjoy a little peace before I die .” Ogwuche said , he got up and began walking away from his stunned and speechless parents .
“Alekwu should have started with people using charm to kill people in this village .” He said as walked away .

Onyabehi went into the house and continued crying where she had stopped , the guilt in her mind , had been pushing her to the edge , she couldn’t believe that the mistake that gave life to her daughter took away life from her son, she wondered about the irony .
She had been calling Obekpa’s number he refused to take her Call , Blessing had confirmed that she was back to Nigeria . Her life in Ogwuche’s parents house was unbearable, she just wanted to leave and go far away.
Ene who used to be her best friend , had told her not to bother going to market with her , she separated the joint business , she could no longer cook or do any domestic chores in Ogwuche’s family house .She was silently ostracized, Alice wasn’t spared they all maltreated her , she wished Obekpa would take her call .
Onyabehi arranged her clothes and those of Alice inside her suitcase , she dragged it in the night to a nearby bush near the road , she prayed that nobody would see the bag .
The next day she woke by four A.M , she woke alive up from where she was lying on the ground , she put a finger to her mouth , so she wouldn’t speak .

She had not locked the door the previous night , because it made loud noise that would wake the whole neighbourhood up .
She opened the door , it creaked , she flashed the torchlight on her phone on Ogwuche to see if he was awake , but he was still fast asleep , Onyabehi tiptoed out of the
, she and Alice walked away from the house.
She went towards the bush near the roadside and grabbed her suitcase , she put it on her head , and held her daughter , they began to walk up the road , she kept looking back to see if anyone was following her .
Ogwuche squat in the bush as Onyabehi turned back to see if anyone was following her , he had grown suspicious the previous night, when he saw her drag her suitcase out of the house by eleven P.M when she thought he was fast asleep.
He had awake when she left the house that morning , his eyes couldn’t close for a minute all night , he wondered what she planned to do .

He stood inside the bush , waiting , Onyabehi put her phone to her ear , she spoke for a while , then he saw two bright headlamps of a vehicle coming from the Otukpo area.
The bent down so the flash of the light would not pour on him , the vehicle made a U-turn , the driver parked the car in front of Onyabehi and her daughter , he came down , he was a huge man.
Though it was dark , Ogwuche could see him , he embraced Onyabehi for a long while , they both wept , he picked Alice up , and embraced the child .
He put her in the back seat of the vehicle , Onyabehi entered the front seat , he picked the suitcase and put it in the boot of his vehicle , got into the driver’s seat and drove away . Ogwuche sighed loudly he felt a burden leave his chest .
He went back home and turned on the bulb , he saw the paper she had dropped behind , she had a beautiful handwriting, that looked like it was typed with a typewriter, the tears drop that had dropped on the paper while she was writing almost soiled the writeup , Ogwuche sat up with the long .
