CHAPTER 48

“He’s stable, and would be fine in an ambulance, but it’s going to be very expensive from here to Abuja. ” The doctor said.
“How much is it? ” Mr Agada asked.
“You’ll check with the cashier at the reception, but it should be up to two hundred thousand naira. ” He said.
“I’ll pay let me go and clear the medical bill.” Mr Agada said.
“Agada Agada the Agama lizard.” Doctor Oko teased his old friend. Mr Agada spent over seven hundred thousand and including the transport fare to have Ogwuche moved to a private hospital in Abuja.
A nurse was to accompany in the ambulance in case of a medical emergency. Ogwuche was being moved to the ambulance parked outside when Ogar drove in.

“Agada what are you doing here? ” He said jumping out of his truck as it rolled to a stop. “Tell me what you’re doing here? Ene where are you taking my son to! ” He yelled at his wife.
“I am taking him to Abuja to get better treatment! He’s not getting the standard of treatment I want here in the Village.” Agada replied his brother.
“Agada you must be mad! So you came behind me to plan a coup with my wife? Ene is it not you? we we’ll meet at home! ” He said to his wife threateningly.
“So you have the effrontery to go behind my back to talk to this batrayer here? You called him because am not man enough to take care of my own son? ”
He asked barked until the whole hospital came to attention. Ogar had trumpet for a voice. Some nurses went to call the medical director.

“Mr Simon bring your voice down, this is a medical facility , you cannot shout here, they’re sick patients here.” He said, Ogar has grabbed Ogwuche’s stretcher.
“So I brought my son here! and you are releasing him to somebody else without my permission? Doctor!” Ogar yelled.
“Ogar please bring your voice down.” The doctor said.
“Don’t tell me to bring my voice down! you people looked for my trouble answer me! do you have a right to release my son without my permission to total strangers? ” he asked.
“Simon just cut that crap! How can you call Agada your elder brother a stranger? ” He asked.
“Shut up your mouth Oko! whoever I call what I call is none of your business! return my son back to the hospital and continue the treatment! Agada you’ve failed stay away from me and my family, if you want to keep your head! I’m warning you oh! Whatever you look for you will see it. ” He hissed.

“You came and dump your son here and left, do you know who paid the bills?” The doctor asked.
“I didn’t call you Agada to come and help me.” Ogar replied his brother instead of the doctor. “Go back to your family in Gboko stay away from my family don’t say u didn’t warn you oh! ” He warned his elder brother sternly. Agada stood weak and paralyzed, Ogwuche lay on the stretcher crying.
“Papa wh-at’s wrong Wi-th you? ” she said. “Let me go! ” He said blood kept shooting out of his stomach injury staining his hospital robe.
“You’re not going anywhere , You’re my son, no matter how hard he wishes you can never be his son! You’ll not die! They will treat you here! “He said as he rolled Ogwuche back into the Ward.
Mr Agada proceeded to the Ohimini police division, he couldn’t let such crime slide, he was informed that Ejembi had returned to the village, he was boasting that nothing would happen to him.

A team of police men were sent to go search for him. He was arrested in a bunk where he had gone to take marijuana. The police men gave him a good beating as his friends escaped into the bush.
Handcuffed they dragged him to the police station, the beating continued by inmates in the cell, when the police men informed them of his offense, his face as swollen as if he was stung by a bee, before the time his father came to bail him.
The police wouldn’t release him, they wanted to charge him to court for attempted murder.
But Ogar yelled down the heavens and called all the elders and clan head to warn Agada to stay away from his family.
The elders called for a family meeting at the clan heads compound.
” Ogar we’ve heard you. Agada what do you have to say about this matter. ” Pa Onoja said to Agada.
“Papa good evening, good evening everyone. You all know my brother here Ogar is an evil man. See the boy I spent my millions to train in school, he’s locked him here in the village for his brother to kill him.”

He said with pain. “I was supposed to be in America since two days ago, but I couldn’t Ogwuche isn’t just my nephew that boy is closer to me than my sons. I cannot be alive and watch Simon destroy him.” He said.
“I know it,I know is that not why you can to steal my son and take him to Abuja? ” He asked. “Since your plan to give him a Tiv wife didn’t work then, you want to snatch him from me.
He’s recovering in the hospital, thank you for paying the bills that I didn’t ask you to. Elders help me beg this man to leave my family alone oh! When I start you all will say I am. troublesome, see Ejembi is being beaten everyday in the police station.
Brothers do fight, it’s not a new thing, Ogwuche is alive, if my son goes to prison they’ll be war in this family oh! war that nobody can stop. tell this foreigner to leave me and my family alone.” He said and went silent.
Pa Onoja and the clan head head begged Agada to withdraw the case from the police station, before they took it to court, they didn’t want more wars and fighting between the brothers. Mr Agada released Ejembi with a promise that he would never involve himself with anything that concerned his brother.
He transferred five hundred thousand naira to Ogwuche’s account and four hundred to Ene’s account to cover her expenses for Ogwuche’s treatment. While the hospital refunded him money for the ambulance .
