Onyabehi came into the one room self contain, the only room in the house, that had it’s own door outside the main house. They even had a private kitchen separate from the other rooms in the house.
“Ogwuche please give me money, I need to go for antenatal today.” She said, Ogwuche was laid on the bed, staring into the ceiling. “Ogwuche can you not hear me! ” onyabehi echoed.
“I beg you in the name of God, Onyabehi don’t disturb me. Is is that you don’t know that I don’t have a job doing? how do you expect me to get money from? ” He asked.
“You’re not even ashamed of yourself, to tell me such nonsense. Are the men farming in people’s farms to take care of their family less humans? ” She asked.
“You must be mad! A professional doctor reduced to a mare labourer? Onyabehi go and tell the people who sent you that you didn’t not find me. I’ve been looking for work as a doctor in Apa, and Otukpo when I get, then I’ll resume those responsibilities forced on me. And for now you can go and meet the man who brought you here.” He said.

“I won’t go to him, he didn’t force you to sleep me, you better get up and give me the money I asked for or the whole community will hear our voice oh! ” She screamed at the top of her voice, Ogwuche ignored her, until she grabbed his trousers.
“Leave my trousers now! Leave my trousers Onyabehi I don’t want to Lay my hand on you! leave me! ” She refused, she grabbed his genitals with his trousers. She wondered how and educated man , who claims to be a medical doctor, wouldn’t understand the importance of antenatal treatment.
She wondered how she would be six months, pregnant and her so called husband wouldn’t care to ask her how she had been faring.
“Ogwuche you’re going to kill me today, or give me the money. If you couldn’t find job in a hospital, what stops you from starting a business or something? ” She screamed at the top of her voice.
“You either give me the money, or you kill me today, ahnahn what kind of rubbish is that na? ” she fumed.

Ene was hearing the bickering from her room, she was preparing to go to the market to sell her yam tubers, she decided to go and check on his son and his wife. The couple didn’t realize that a third party had entered into the room.
“What is it again Onyabehi?” Ene asked with a grimace on her face. “Why can I not enjoy one week of peace in this house since the both of you got married? ” She asked .
“Mama who got married? did you people bring palm wine to my father’s house? ” she asked. “Your husband bought me for his son who doesn’t love, he wants me to die with my pregnancy so he could go back to his sweetheart Dooshima! ” Onyabehi cried.
“Stop talking nonsense Onyabehi. Why are you holding your husband’s trousers? please let it go! ” She begged, Onyabehi glared at Ogwuche from head to toes, hissed and then let go of his trousers. “What is it again today?” Ene asked.
“Mama asked your son oh, have I not been a good daughter in-law mama? I sweep this compound everyday before six A. M. I follow Ogbene to the pump to fetch water everyday, I follow you to the farm or to your shop mama,

I’ve tried to love Ogwuche he’s not helping it. Always staring at her pictures on the phone and crying himself to sleep. Mama how does it feel to know my husband doesn’t love me? ” Ene knew Onyabehi had been a good daughter in-law she had ever wished for.
But she saw the shadow her son had become, her light , Ogwuche had supported his mother’s business two times with his salary and allowance, she was sad how her husband insistence of him marrying from Idoma land had ruined him.
“So is that why you’re fighting him? ” She asked although she already knew the reason for their fighting.
“Mama I need to go for antenatal check up, Your son here has refused to give me any money to go for my check up. Mama does Ogwuche not want me dead? ” She asked .
“Stop talking about death, death, you’re carrying life don’t call death.” ° Ene begged. ” How much do you need for the antenatal check up? ” She asked.

“Mama it is six thousand naira.” She said.
“Okay follow me to my room let me give it to you.” Ene said, Onyabehi stood staring at Ogwuche for a little while too long. “Come let’s go? ” Ene added, she dragged herself away from Ogwuche.
“Onya fighting isn’t the only way to resolve misunderstandings, they’re more sensible ways of doing things. ” She opened her boss and brought out a bundle of one thousand naira notes.
She counted six thousand naira. I added too thousand naira to your money for your transport and food. ” Onyabehi grumpily said thank you.
“Why that face my daughter, smile for me.” She said holding her cheeks, Onyabehi flashed her a superficial smile. “Please ehn my daughter no more fighting with Ogwuche okay?” She nodded and left for the hospital. Ene went back into her son’s room.
“Ogwuche what’s wrong with you? why are you punishing that girl for the sin of your father? ” She asked .

“Mama my father or not, Onyabehi is a good girl I know that. But I don’t have that kind of feelings for her, I don’t know how my father made us stay together. ” He grumbled.
” I cannot and will not try to love her. Papa brought here here, he can actually marry her. ” Ogwuche said angrily.
“Taaaar! Tufuakwa! why would you be saying nonsense with your mouth? a woman you have slept with? it’s a taboo for s father and son to sleep with the same woman! ” Ene barked. “Ogwuche what she said was true oh. If no hospital wants to employ you, why not go into farming? ” she asked .
