CHAPTER 13

Preparation was at top gear , Pastor Gamadi the founder and general superintendent of Christ Family Church daughter’s wedding . Annabel had graduated from Nile University Abuja , where she got a first and master’s degree in accounting .
She was getting married to the Martins Tarka son of the governor of Benue State.
Dignitaries for the academic and political field had trooped to Gboko with convoys that stretched from earth to heaven , Annabel was looking like a queen , her immaculately white Micheal Owen custom made wedding gown ,imported from Dubai ,her head was covered in a white veil , she danced gracefully as she entered into the church .
The number of dignitaries that had traveled from Lagos and Abuja to witness the wedding of Annabel and Martins were in their hundreds .
The beautiful sounds of live music sipped through the microphones into the large loud speakers . The people of Gboko came out in their numbers to support a son of their soil , who had contributed in several aspects to better the life’s of people from his town .
Professor Gamadi had influenced the governor’s decision to bring steady power to Gboko and it’s environs,and all state owned roads were fixed , he made sure all public primary and secondary schools were put in order and refurbished.

Saxophones , trumpets and trombones played to the accompaniment of the sonorous voice of the lead singer and his backup singers , the drummer was sweating profusely from his scalp .
Dooshima was Anabel’s bridesmaid, she was dressed in a sky blue gown , she danced beautiful behind her sister . Pastor Gamadi stressed in white Agbada , and white pair of Oxford brogues,came down to dance with his daughter , and her husband after the Pastor had pronounced them husband and wife .
Ogwuche’s face became red with joy, he oozed excitement when the deacon held Dooshima up , he whispered into her ears , his heart was filled with excitement.
He wished he could dance with his father , but his father had been a hard man from his childhood, the only good time there had together was when he would drive him and his siblings to their faraway farm , where they spent one week or two weeks sometimes living in their farm house .
He was very good with the cane , if his father handled any of his siblings they would lost appetite for food for a whole day . Ogar’s children dreaded him , his daughters ran away from the house soon after secondary school,to their husbands houses to avoid his unnecessary beatings and insults .

Ogwuche had sewn a matching sky blue senator to match with Dooshima’s colour . Professor Gamadi had two sons and two daughters, he spent more time dancing with Dooshima than the bride , Martins and Anabel were dancing with Mrs Seember at the front of the church .
For that Saturday professor Gamadi wasn’t a pastor , he was just an excited father .
“Your wedding is going to be bigger than this , don’t tell your siblings , but you’re my favourite child , don’t tell your siblings.” He whispered to Dooshima with a smile on his face amidst the loud music playing in the background she smiled .
“Wow dad I don’t feel special, you treat us equally, same monthly allowances.” Dooshima Chortled , her dad smiled .
“The four of you are my children , I cannot discriminate against any one of you.” He said as the music came to a stop .
Dooshima wondered why she would be the only one amongst her siblings to go to a public university when all her siblings attended private universities.

Pastor Gamadi gifted Anabel and her husband a brand new G-Wagon, the governor gave to his son and Anabel keys to a brand new four bedroom duplex in GRA Makurdi.
“Good day sir .” Ogwuche , with his head slightly bowed . Dooshima was standing beside him , she had brought Ogwuche to see her father , she had told her dad about a man she had just started seeing .
The pastor excused himself from the midst of his colleagues and friends, they were alll at the car park after the newly wedded couple had driven out of the car park .Professor Gamadi shook hands with Ogwuche.
“What’s your name young man ?” he asked ,staring at the nicely dressed young man from head to toe , his neatly polished black Oxford brogues ,told him the young man was a man meant to go far in life .
“My name is Ogwuche Simon Ogar Inalegwu.” He said , with a shyness eating him up .
“Are you the son of Gabriel Agada Inalegwu the church accountant ?” Pastor Gamadi asked .

“No sir , he’s my uncle , though I grew up with him .” Ogwuche said the pastor nodded .
“What do you do for a living ?” He asked putting his hands into the pocket of his Baba Riga.
“Am a medical doctor sir , I am currently working with General Hospital Gboko.” Ogwuche said with humility.
“Okay what is it that you want with my daughter?” He shot straight to the point. Ogwuche’s mind almost bursted up with fear , his blood pressure rose to the roof .
“Sir I want her to be my life partner… I meant my wife .” He said ,pastor Gamadi nodded .
“Do you drink alcohol ?” he asked Ogwuche the question took him by surprise.
“No sir I don’t drink .” Ogwuche replied .
“Do you smoke ?” He asked , Ogwuche shook his head .

“My daughter was trained in the way of the Lord , I don’t know about yourself, but you shouldn’t be the reason why my daughter turns away from her Christian beliefs . You’ll not like to see the other side of me that people don’t know like .
“He said to Ogwuche, he sensed the euphemistically hidden threat but he nodded all the same .”I don’t try to match make my kids , I understand what freedom is in the law and the life.
So I don’t want to match make my children, just make sure your life is right .” He said , he deep his hand into his pocket and dragged out a two bundles of one thousand naira .
